Urban Forest Project

The Urban Forest Project took place last fall on the streets of New York. 85 designers and artists got together to employ the idea or form of the tree to make a powerful visual statement on the banners. The idea was that the tree is a metaphor for sustainability and in that spirit the banners from the exhibition were recycled into totebags after the project was concluded. I found several design firms and artists that were very interesting looking through the banners. I am currently in the process of talking to John Perlman. His banner is shown along with a few others I found interesting!

What a great idea. Way to blend awareness with consumerism. The tree is a powerful motivating symbol.
Can't wait to hear about John's process. another amazing feat of managing numerous designers.

At first I thought it was kinda weird using paper when they are promoting not using paper in a way, but the recycling into tote bags and other objects sounds really cool, I'd definintely like to look into some of these projects, they look really beautiful.

I love the banners, I checked out the site for the project. The visual and conceptual quality of the banners overall was fantastic and provides inspiration for artists as well as taking a stand about environmental concerns. The banners manage to stand out even in a visually busy urban space like NYC. I would love to see a similar project here (other than painted cows).
